Hello!
At Seren (Welsh for star) we believe that fair trade is important because it provides the best deal for both you, the consumer, and for producers too. Fair trade means better working conditions and wages for producers which in turn gives them dignity and a better way of life, not just for them and their families, but their communities as well. We are of the opinion that when producers are respected and paid a fair price for a product the result is a superior quality product for the consumer.
- Through the simple act of shopping you are able to make a real difference to the lives of other people. By choosing fair trade you can positively affect the lives of others.Everyone involved in fair trade agrees that fair trade means:-
- - paying producers a fair price which reflects the cost of production
- - supporting producers and producer organisations
- - promoting gender equality
- - a commitment to a long term relationship with producers to provide security
- - campaigning to highlight the inequalities in world trade and making people aware of the ways in which fair trade can address these.
- At Seren we aim to provide all our customers with a first class, personal service.Seren is a limited company as we believe that fair trade can operate competitively, offering high quality goods at affordable prices, whilst still upholding the dignity and value of the people involved. You can shop with confidence at Seren. We are a member of the British Association for Fair Trade Shops (BAFTS) and the overwhelming majority of our suppliers have BAFTS’ accreditation.Seren holds a selection of educational resources about fair trade on behalf of Stroud Fair Trade Steering Group (SFTSG). If you are a teacher or work with young people in another capacity and would be interested in using these resources, then please get in touch. To help spread the message of fair trade as wide as we can, we also offer a Sale-or-Return service to organisations wanting to promote fair trade. If you would be interested in this service then please contact us.
- The two Directors of the company are members of the SFTSG the purpose of which is to promote Fair trade and help Stroud maintain its Fairtrade Town status. The Manager of Seren, who is also one of the Directors, is Ceri Sheppard. Ceri first became involved in fair trade more years ago than she cares to remember!! She and her friend used to sell fair trade products twice a week from the forecourt of a church in Canton, Cardiff. When Fair Do’s, Wales’ first fair trade shop, opened in Canton she first became an enthusiastic customer and soon became assistant manager for four years. One of her favourite memories of her time at Fair Do’s was when she donned tinsel and wings to become the Fair Trade Fairy who flitted through Canton’s busy shopping area promoting fair trade during one Fairtrade Fortnight!Ceri will be only too happy to help you with any queries you may have.
